Building
a Deck & Making a Barrel Yurt First
you must create a stable base or foundation and build a deck or floor.
The final product will only be as stable as your floor. Your
floor will be cut in the shape of a circle. |

The
Doors and Windows All door jambs and window jambs are made in our shop using the same ball and socket joint as the staves used to make the walls. When you get to the place where you want a door or window, you place it and continue adding staves until you complete the circle. All our Yurts come with 2 doors and 2 windows. Windows are 3/16” clear acrylic. Both the windows and doors are slightly curved to match the curve of your floors diameter. You can add additional doors and windows. It is best to include them as you build the yurt and before you add your roof as you must remove the hoops and take the staves apart to add these items. |

So far you have built a good solid foundation, framed in and sheeted your floor. Next you have applied the finished flooring and erected your walls installing the doors and windows. Now you must install the round rods that are threaded on each end. Secure these rods to the staves 1” above the dado in the stave that your floor fits into and 1” above your doors. Attach the double lugs and tighten the nuts. Depending on the diameter of your yurt, there may be several of these double lugs and nuts. Now you are ready to start the roof. This has been made easy by the roof ring. Start with building a temporary scaffolding like this; It
will hold the roof ring in place until you install the rafters. Secure
the rafters into the metal hangers on the ring 1 at a time. Mark the
rafters where they meet the wall and notch each rafter out using our
notching jig (included with your kit). The
notch on each rafter will sit flat on the top of the wall. Secure this
into place by using metal hangers, L brackets, toe nails or screws. One
at a time, notch each other rafter in the same place and secure them to
the roof ring and wall in much the same manner. Continue around the
circle until all the rafters are up and secured to the top of the barrel
walls. Domed Skylight
Roof Sheeting Now you are ready to sheet the roof in and apply your roofing materials. We can supply you with premier roof fabric made of industrial duty materials and thermally welded seams for consistent watertight integrity. The valance, a foot-wide band attached to the bottom edge of the roof, covers the roof to wall space for a watertight seal. Your choice of material and color is a key consideration in the design of your yurt. Our standard roof material is Pro-Structure, an 18.5 oz vinyl coated polyester. Pro-Structure also features a clear acrylic exterior coating to keep the material clean and add an extra layer of protection against ultra-violet rays and other harmful elements. Available in gray, white and tan. Options
